What do you want to be ten years from now?

A journalist recently asked me where I saw myself ten years from now. This was my response:

God has been very kind to me. Materially, I have got everything. I attained name and fame as a journalist at a very young age of 23. I became an Executive Vice-president at one India's biggest media companies much before my time. I have a really beautiful house and a dream car. What more can I ask for?

I was recently offered the job of a CEO by a media company, which I declined because I knew I would not be happy in that role. At no point, would I want to sacrifice my happiness and peace of mind. What is the point in earning millions if you are not happy? I strongly believe in the Dalia Lama's words, "The purpose of life is to be happy."

All of us fail to enjoy the present moment because we are constantly worried about the future. Though personally I would love to involve myself in the field of education,  I really do not know what the Universe has in store for me. The Universe has put us in this world for a purpose and has assigned us a role, which keeps changing from time to time. In whatever role you are put, give your best to it. Whatever you do, however big or small, you should do it with utmost diligence.

If you ask me if I want to be the CEO of a multinational company or one of the richest men in the world, I would say I would be happy as a good human being. My aim in life is to evolve as a good human being with every passing year and positively impact the lives of as many people as I can. I hope that in the next ten years I will be a much better human being than what I am now.
