M. Gautham Machaiah
Sidney Sheldon is the master of intrigue, sex and suspense, but BloodLine falls short on all counts. Perhaps, it is because this is one of his earlier works.
BloodLine is the story of Roffe and Sons, a large global entity whose Chairman dies in a mysterious accident leaving the controlling stake of the family-held enterprise in the hands of his inexperienced daughter, Elizabeth. The plot thickens with Elizabeth taking over the reins much to the disappointment of the other partners who had hoped to benefit from Roffe’s death.
There is an element of mystery, but the reading experience is by no means nail biting. One wonders if Sheldon had to encounter the writer’s block when he penned this book. The book though, has enough ‘masala’ for a good Bollywood film.
It is only after about 200 pages that narration gets racy. Finally, you are relieved that the Sheldon magic has begun to work. But barely when the adrenaline rush begins, the novel ends on a filmi note.
However, the novel is easy on the mind and sustains your interest all through.. Though it might disappoint die-hard Sheldon fans a bit, it nevertheless keeps you entertained from start to finish. Overall, the book is good, but it could have been better.
